Wisconsin, Day 1
Getting to Wisconsin always seem to be an adventure for me. Year after year, my flights are delayed or canceled, but I usually don’t mind spending a little extra time in the airport. This year my flights were on time, snow was falling as I landed and I was excited to be picked up by my brother, brush my teeth and head to bed. But as I watched the orange suitcase go around on the luggage carousel for the 4th time, I realized that may not be happening the way I wanted it to, mainly the teeth brushing part.
Even though my suitcase may not have switched planes in Minneapolis, and even though I was without my toothbrush for way too long, it really didn’t matter because I made it to Wisconsin.
And this is what happened when I woke up in Wisconsin this morning… So my sister was picking me up from my brother’s house this morning and had planned to text me to let me know she was on her way. When I woke up this morning, I immediately looked for my phone so I could check her status. Looked in my purse—no phone. Looked in my jacket pocket—no phone. Looked in my lap top case— no phone. I sat down and waited for my sister to arrive so she could call my brother.
Upon her arrival, she called my brother so he could check his car for my phone. He said he’d check and then hung up. He called back about a minute later to say that the car was in the garage.
I went out and checked the car—no phone.
Let’s retrace my steps from the previous night. I got in the car with my cell phone, I know because I received a text message and checked it in the car. We then stopped at McDonalds and after that point I obviously had my hands full with a Chicken Ranch BLT and salty French Fries. When we arrived at his house I jumped out of the car to dance in the snowy street and run through the snow piles. And then I went inside for the night.
My only option was to check the snow covered driveway. I had my sister call my phone and sure enough I heard a beep through the snowfall. She called again and again, one beep each time she phoned. Finally I just started pawing through the snow and alas, there was my phone, on its last battery leg, but still alive and beeping.
And then we went to a buffet for lunch and had cheese curds and Culvers on the way home.
